The Sacking of Coruscant towards the end of the Great Galactic War

Star Wars 5E: The Cold War is set during a unique time period in the galaxy's history. Decades of war concluded during 3653 BBY, with the Sith Empire sacking the Republic's capital planet, Coruscant, and forcing Republic Senators and the Jedi Council to agree to a painful peace treaty.1

"This whole affair is endemic of the current crisis. The Sith are on the rise. We are on the wane. The Mandalorians and the Hutts stand between us, creating confusion and jostling for advantage. Our options are limited. If we do nothing, millions of people die. If we fight back, we engage with them at their level."

— Jedi Padawan Shigar Konshi

the Sacking of Coruscant

The Cold War was an intense standoff between the reconstituted Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic after 3653 BBY. The Treaty of Coruscant ended the Great Galactic War, sealing the Sith Empire's partial victory and its annexation of almost two thirds of the known galaxy. Peace was gained, but tensions between the Empire and Republic remained high, especially as the Sith began seizing more planets in the Core Worlds.2

This time period was perhaps one of the most significant periods in galactic history, particularly for that of the Sith. As a result of the immense power that they held during the Cold War, this was well-regarded as the time in which the Sith were at their mightiest.
